"Greetings & Welcome!"
to my
vernonconn
website
Vernon-Rockville, Connecticut U.S.A.

Since I had taken some nice photos of Vernon & Rockville already, I wanted to create
a website with my own photos, so that visitors to the town may view them.
A list of pages are at the bottom of this page.

The town of Vernon was incorporated in 1808 by the division of the town of Bolton.  Settled in 1716, the area was first known as North Bolton.  The creation of the new Hartford Turnpike was undoubtedly a contributing factor in the establishment of a new town.  The City of Rockville was incorporated on March 28, 1889, as a chartered city within the town of Vernon.*  Rockville was named after the once upon a time, Rock Manufacturing Company.

Here is a photo of the one-lane tunnel. Tunnel Road is so called because it has the oldest one car lane tunnel in Connecticut.  It was built between 1846-1849. It has 30 keystone arches which makes it 108 feet long. Tunnel Road goes up a mountain.
The tunnel is located in Vernon, Connecticut U.S.A. off the Highway 84, Exit 66* on Tunnel Road.

The Rail line was turned into the "Rails to Trails" path a few years ago.  It is located above the tunnel which is 5.3 miles long and runs from Manchester through Vernon and ends in Bolton.

Below photo was taken by my mother at the 1958 East Granby Parade celebrations.
